About University of Passau

The University of Passau – Careers are Made Here

Idyllically situated on the banks of the River Inn, on a green campus, on the fringes of the Passau Old Town, lies the newest university in Bavaria. Since being founded in 1978 it has developed into one of the best academic addresses in Germany as regularly confirmed in the rankings: in Computer Science, Economics, Law, and International Cultural and Business Studies, Passau is one of the top German universities. Computer Science is an special tip: excellent academic staff provide intensive supervision of the highest academic standard. Innovative teaching concepts as, for example in the teacher training courses and in theology complete the picture. All five faculties are superbly equipped, interculturally oriented, and performance and practice related. Their special strength lies in the interdisciplinary interlinking of research and studies. The youngest university in Bavaria

Unique Range of Language Options

The range of language and study exchange options in Passau is more extensive than in most other German universities. There are partnerships with 130 universities throughout the world. Lawyers and economists also have the opportunity to complete a subject-oriented foreign language course alongside their regular studies. In addition to English, French, Italian or Spanish, more unusual languages such as Chinese, Portuguese, Russian or Czech can be chosen.

Interdisciplinary and international orientated

The university owes its supra-regional reputation in particular to its unique interdisciplinary, internationally-oriented courses which attract elite students from the whole of Germany to Passau. The graduates are much sought after on the employment market. Important German and international companies participate regularly in the Firmenkontaktmesse (company contact fair) ‘Campus meets Company’ on the university premises. This event is organized by the Praxiskontaktstelle (Career and Work Experience Office) at the university. The Praxiskontaktstelle offers students tips and advice for the transition from university to workplace, helps with applications for work experience positions at home and abroad and organizes Assessment Centre Training with personnel specialists for the business world.

Excellent conditions

Students themselves also show initiative. In addition to dedicated Fachschaften (departmental student groups) there is an abundance of different organizations and clubs which contribute voluntarily and help to shape the cultural life in the town. The bright nightlife and picturesque old town with inexpensive accommodation prove - not only can you study well in Passau, you can also live well here.
